  1. TMPGEnc will not accept as an input file any of my AVIs genrerated by importing from my camera through firewire to my disc. TMPGEnc reports something along the lines of "wrong type". As a consequence, I have to frameserve from Premiere using the video server from videotools.net.

Someone recently posted a site for downloading a free tool to convert Type 1 DV to Type 2 DV. Should the free converter overcome this problem?

I am not at my computer with my video tools, so I cannot test it out.

  2. TMPGEnc accepts type 1 DV files if you have a DV codec. I suggest that you install the Canopus DV codec.

  3. In response to yg1968's post, is the Canopus DV codec available without buying a Canopus product? I use a 1394 card with Premiere 6.01, so I do not own anything from Canopus. I am under the impression that the Canopus codec is very high quality, and part of their family jewels. If there is a legit way to get the codec, I would be happy to find out how.

    Any insight would be appreciated.

Do a search for Canopus DV File Converter.

"This software converts between all Microsoft DV file formats and all Canopus DV file formats."

And the good news, it converts losslessy, and it's free.

  5. I just noticed that the Canopus DV codec is available on the tools page.

    Thanks,
