  1. I have successfully burned a VCD2.0 slideshow onto a CD/RW using Ulead DVD Pictureshow. But when I play it on my Sony DVD dukebox (DVP-CX850D), all I get is a message screen along the lines "ULEAD Pictureshow - VCD2.0 player required - please start PBC Function". This only shows for a short period before the player stops and loads the next disk in the dukebox.

    The player is clearly picking this message screen up from the CD/RW and I have tried a number CDs from other manufacturers, but I get the same message.

    According to the DVD player manual and references in this site, the player is VCD2.0 compatabile. So it leaves me unclear where the problem is. Is it a buring problem ?, is it a disk problem ? or is it something wrong with the player ? ANY HELP WILL BE GRATEFULLY RECEIVED !!!!

    Try pushing the "menu" button on your remote
    ( or turn PBC on somewhere on your standalone)
    What is PBC? I think you could search this forum, youll get an answer.

  3. Thanks for the info

    I hunted around all the different settings in the standalone, but could not find auything that looks relevant. I'll give it another try this evening.

    I ment PCB, not PBC.

    As mategal mentioned, PBC (PlayBack Control) must be turned on for VCD2.0. If you can't find it on your remote/menu system, look in your players manual for instructions on how to turn it on.

    PBC = Play Back Control
    PCB = Printed Circuit Board

    I think you meant PBC

    You know I have seen this also in the case of playing VCDEASY generated slideshows on a PC (WINDVD)

    If I play in a standalone player, it plays fine. If on a PC, it mentions VCD 2.0 , enable PBC (Play back control)

    Thats great, but none of you answered the guys questions. I have 3 different set top boxes, none have a function called PLAY BAC CONTROL that can be enabled.

    I have WINDVD and POWERDVD on different PC's and they do not have PBC.

    So can someone be more specific as to WHERE this would be (would help the original poster and myself) .......Thanks in advance !

  8. I can assure that essentially ALL stand-alone DVD players that have VCD capabilities support PBC. It may be a relatively obscure heading in the user's manual.

    Often, on stand-alone players, if you press "PLAY" when you put in the disc, it will activate PBC. If you press "1" it plays the VCD in PBC-less mode.

    WinDVD and PowerDVD definitely both support PBC. In fact, I use PowerDVD to test out my VCDs before I burn them. PowerDVD from experience has supported PBC since version 2.55 (which was when I started using it).

    I'm not sure why you are getting your problem but it could possibly due to the way the VCD was authored... It is unlikely if you made your discs with VCDEasy, however (as it does default to VCD2.0 with PBC support). It is not inconceivable that your DVD player for some reason defaults to PBC off mode. Dig out your user's manaul... It will probably mention how to turn PBC on/off by default in a sub-menu somewhere.

    My standalone players never have an issue. And Yes, I seem to remember the letters PBC appearing on the screen display automatically.

    But the problem still remains on VCDEASY authored VCD's. in PC's.

    If I create a VCD as normal with TMPG and NERO, no issue. When I use VCDEASY following the guide for a picture slideshow, I get that message when trying to play back. And I don't see anywhere in WINDVD to turn it on....

    I had the same problem with PowerDVD application on my PC when using VCDEasy. There is a 'button' on the PowerDVD application interface(near the shuttle control, on the left) which allows you to put PowerDVD app. into 'file' ( I belive it was 'file' mode, could have been 'disc' mode. I'm at work now and don't have PowerDVD here) mode. Putting PowerDVD into this mode allowed me to play my disc.
    Thanks,

  11. Putting PowerDVD into "disc mode" with a VCD in the drive will active PBC playback for the VCD.
