  1. I am having a problem with VD with the following error when I try to open an mpeg to convert it to avi:

    VirtualDub Error
MPEG Import Filter: pack synchronization error.

If anyone can help me correct this I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance....

I usually get this error when either I try to open an MPEG-2 file, or the an MPEG-1 or an AVI that has a very high resolutuion. What can you tell us about the video file itself?

  3. Hey, I'm getting the same error. I downloaded and burned an episode of Firefly which was encoded as (supposedly) an anamorphic svcd. Nero and DVD Workshop both burned it fine, but on my dvd player (an Apex 5131 3-disc changer) the image jitters back and forth... like flashing lateral color bleeds.

Looking at the properties in Nero it says it's a compliant ntsc 480x480 video. However, even playing the file back on my computer looks funky--- the image is kind of squashed horizontally. I tried to re-encode it in TMPGENC, but it says the video type is unknown or unsupported. Trying to import it into VirtualDub gives me the error reported here. Help!!!

Go back to TMPGEnc. And note this quote --
If you get an error message when opening the video or audio like file unsupported
or you get an empty(black) video preview window
or the video look wierd in the video preview window like green or purple or pink
Be sure that you have installed the DivX Codecs (both DivX 3.11, 4 and 5) and also try with the Nimo Codec Pack. If that does not work try to change the codec reader settings in TMPGEnc under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in and right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority to 1 or 2 and try open the video.

  6. Well, there MUST be an easier way to do this, but here's what worked for me: I used the multiplexing mpeg tools in TMPGENC, which gave me something dvd2avi could read. i resized it in there and saved the avi. Then I converted the avi to a svcd with tmpgenc and the aspect ratio is correct now.
