  1. What do I need to capture DV form my camera? It is connected to a firewire card but VirtualDub does not recognise it. I had no problems capturing analogue but this digital video seems a bit trickier. Specifically, when I try to capture with VirtualDub I get the following.....

"Error - can not find a driver to draw this non-RGB image format . Preview and historgram functions will be unavailable "

    Thanks,
    peejay

  2. Firewire is not a capture device, it is a File Network Transfer thing.

WindowsXP MovieMaker can transfer over the digital DV Video.

Virtualdub will not capture from a firewire device. Most commercial programs will though (Pinnacle Studio 8, Windows Movie Maker etc.) If you are on a budget and don't want to pay for a capture program use this:

    http://www.carr-engineering.com/DVIO.exe

It simply captures the stream from the firewire card as a type-2 avi file. If you get this codec:

    http://www.mainconcept.com/archive/mcdv204.exe

you will be able to open the stream and edit in virtualdub.

    Hope this helps!
