  2. Hi,

Animorphic Widescreen means that the pictures uses a bigger resolution than is required. The picture gets stretches. For example, a 1.85:1 format movie would be stretched to 4:3 resolution. This causes the picture to get stretched in hight. When you selected a 4:3 TV-set in your dvd-player settings (standalone...) the resolution will be squashed to normal before it is output to your TV-set. When you have selected 16:9, the picture is left stretches. You can now set your widescreen TV to animorphic for a better picture quality.
Because a DVD-player recognises this on a dvd, the animorphic feature is always good. On SVCD's however, the difference between normal and animorphic is only recognised on some standalone players. So if you encode a animorphic dvd to an animorphic SVCD picture, you'll end up with the stretched picture. This is not a problem when you have a widescreen tv, but people with a 4:3 television can't set is to animorphic view, thus ending up with a screwed up picture.
I myself have a widescreen tv, but still never use the animorphic setting in DVD2SVCD because of the compatibility AND the fact that widescreen movies get added REAL black bars so the black bars use up very little to no bitrate. This causes the fact that there is hardly any difference in quality between animorphic on non-animorphic SVCD because the bitrate use is the same for both !!
