  1. i have the apex 500w and was thinking abt getting a dvd writer but was wondering if any1 else owns this dvd player and if so can they confirm that it can play dvd-r, dvd-rw, dvd+r and dvd+rw doesnt have to play all the formats 1 or 2 of them would suffice, and yes i have checked the comaptibility list and it says it does but just wanted some confirmation from fellow apex500w owners out there thanks in advance

  2. I have this player and the Pioneer DVD-R LFD-311 and it plays beautifully.

It also plays any VCD/SVCD I throw at it.

This is a rugged player and I have read posts that it will play non-standard mpg bitrates, but I can't confirm this myself, 'cause I haven't tried.

    Good Luck!

I've had one for a year now, and an Apex 500a for 2 years.

The 500w has devolped problems (been abused too much ), and skips, or locks up every now and then, but plays cheap Princo DVD-R's 90% of the time flawless. The ones that have problems play fine on other
    DVD players, including my 500a, PS2, 5131, and a couple of Pioneer's.

Most of the problems come from overheating, I modded my 500a with a cooling fan but not the 500w, after 2hours of use, forget it, it won't even play a "hollywood" DVD.
