Ref: The Cretins' Guide to DVD Ripping and Copying (http://www.hkruse.dircon.co.uk)
The referenced Guide is by far the best step-by-step guide for the techno-challenged I have been able to find online using DVD Decrypter, IfoEdit, ReMpeg and Nero. That being said, I still have a few questions that I can't determine from Cretin's Guide:
1. Cretin's Step 13: When editing the "sample.cffl" file, is it critical that I save it under this name or can I rename it to "name_of_movie.cffl"? I assume ReMpeg doesn't care what the name of the .cffl is when "encoding".
Also, are the VTS_xx_0.VOB and the last VOB of the "main movie" left out of the "sample.cffl" and re-encode process for a reason (small file size)? Are these VOBs simply introductions, trailers and credits?
2. Cretin's Step 27: When IfoEdit produces a collection of files in this step, do I SAVE them in the existing folder from Cretin's Step 7 or in a new folder? It's not clear to me since the instruction says to "NOT delete anything you've saved so far".
3. Cretin's Step 29: "Fill in a destination directory". Do I SAVE them in the existing folder from Cretin's Step 7 or in a new folder I may have created in Step 27 or in a nerw folder all together (the "Holy Grail")? It's just not that clear to me. Following the Steps literally, I ended up with only 1 VOB file that started with 9 from the main VTS _01_* movie.
3. Cretin's Step 35: After completing this step, if I "reopen IfoEdit, open up VIDEO_TS.IFO again and click on DVD Play -- you will effectively see what will happen when the disk is put in a player." What will I see? A template? Actual video running? What?
3. Cretin's Step 37: Am I supposed to drag ANY other files into the AUDIO_TS folder or ONLY the VIDEO_TS folder as indicated and only from the "Holy Grail" folder? As I mentioned above, my "Holy Grail contained only 1 VOB file.
Other: If my source DVD is less than 4.7 GB, do I have to ReMpeg the DVD? If not, how can I go straight from DVD DeCrypter to Nero? I tried "How to Copy a 4.7G DVD to DVD-R Simply with DVD-Decrypter" via DVD Decrypter "ISO" mode without success (ref: http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/userguides/99282.php). The resulting "burn" was "successful", but the DVD would not play or load.
Finally, if I successfully create a DVD using Cretin’s Guide, can I simply do a “DVDCopy” to make another copy or do I have to go through this entire ripping and ReMpeg’ing process all over again?
Any assistance you can provide me would be appreciated as I am determined to figure this out.
Thank you.
