  1. I've used DVD Moviefactory for a few months, and have had really good luck. Well, I've decided to try DVD Workshop trial, and it is really SWEET! However, I have a question about something that seems so simple...

When importing video clips as menu thumbnails, how do I change the starting point of the video (what it displays in the DVD menu). It's kinda difficult to explain, but DVD MovieFactory allows you to double click the thumbnail, then silde a slider to adjust the video thumbnail. I can't imagine that DVD Workshop won't allow this. Any ideas?

Many of my converted VHS movies start out w/ a blank screen, then the video fades in. With DVD Workshop, all I see in the DVD menu is a blank screen for the thumbnail. I realize it would be easy to do a screen capture for the frame I'd like to use, but this is an extra step.

  2. I'm new to DVD WS too. This is how I do it. While in the Edit mode, create at least one chapter, even though you may not even want to have chapters. As soon as you create the first chapter, the image of a film strip appears on the right side of the screen. Drag the slider bar to the position you want in the player window. Then right click with the mouse on each chapter point and from the pop up window choose "Set Chapter Thumbnail".

To create chapter points, double click on the clip at the bottom until the clip appears in the player window. Drag the slider to the chapter point you want and then right click on the player window. From the pop up window choose "Set Chapter Thumbnail".

If you don't want chapters, create a chapter anyway until you get the film strip showing. Then set the thumbnail for the first frame, which is the starting point of the clip. Then right click on each chapter you do not want, and delete it.

  3. Thanks Fred,

I knew there had to be a way to do this...too bad it's not as easy as DVD Moviefactory.

On Ulead moviefactory or workshop how do I burn a DVD with more than one file? I thought I could add many small files and create chapters for each file and then burn the DVD, but moviefactory only burns DVD with one file at a time.

I encoded MPEG files with TMPGEnc and was thinking of merging several files to create DVD...any help?

If you are using a trial version you don't need the key serial numbers....otherwise you need to buy it.

You have been warned about this once already by Baldrick, do not ask for serials or cracks.

  10. DVD MF makes disks from files, which are currently selected. You can select more than 1 file by holding down shift, ctrl or Alt key (which one, I don't remember), while clicking on thumbnail. IIRC more clips can be added in authoring menus too (there is something like "add clip" button).

This question baffled me for a while as well, until I stumbled upon the solution by accident a few weeks ago.

falberni's method is close -- but you don't actually need to create a chapter in order to get the filmstrip to appear. If you look in the upper-left corner of the screen, you'll see a row of five icons just below the blue Start > Capture > Edit > Menu > Finish bar. Notice the right-most icon, which looks like a piece of film? Click on it, and DVD Workshop will obligingly display the filmstrip with one chapter stop -- the beginning of your clip -- already in it. Then, simply follow falberni's method as described to set the chapter thumbnail.

Thank you all for the tips. That's why I donated to VCDhelp, as there are lots of nice people around helping others making it worth participating in VCDhelp.
    Thanks again.

    Thanks solarfox! That is easier.

  14. I'm not sure I get the discussion right.
If the first frame of the title (movie clip) is blank, and you want to play the title from the first frame, the thumbnail on the menu has to be blank. If you reset the thumbnail with subsequent frame of the same title, the title will play from that point. I have yet to overcome the blank thumbnails on menu on DWS

  15. No the thumbnail frame does not have to be blank. You can choose a frame from any part of the video to be the thumbnail. i.e. the video start piont for a chapter does not have to be the same as that of the thumbnail frame.
