  1. Ok, I have a DivX movie which is excellent quality. I want to burn it to play it in my DVD player, so obviously I have to switch it over to a SVCD or VCD. I have tried converting the file with TMPGEnc to both and have been able to burn them fine. The quality has dropped dramaticly though, from almost dvd quality down to "a tape, from a tape, from tv". I understand that you will loose quality with the conversion, but this is too much. Any one have any suggestions that will help me out here?

Thought I would throw in that I have been going through VCDhelp website here for a couple of hours, been through the step by step guides to do it, but I havnt realy found anything on improving the quality.

  2. How many cds have you split the file onto? Because if the movie is large the you will have to split it onto two discs to maintain quality. You may want to try increasing your video bitrate to improve the video of the movie after converting.

The higher the video bitrate the larger the file size will be when finished. Larger file size = Less movie time per cd

  3. I have split it into 2 cds each while I was converting them to mpg
Should I convert first then split or something?

  4. You can make some good looking DivX rips, or get some half decent ones, but once converted to SVCDs (or worse) that's generally what happens... Although some people will gladly tell you how they've fit up to 2 hours on a CD and it looks better than the original DVD... and that's even starting from a VHS tape capture... I have seen some ok stuff on CVD/SVCD, but it's real short and from good sources.

  5. I have found that capturing at a greater resolution than the source tends to expand the picture which in turn expands all of the flaws of the source. Always make sure when converting you never expand the resolution, for example if the source is 640x240 then never convert it to a higher resolution like 480x480 even though the horizontal 480 is smaller the vertical is bigger than the 240 and you will be expanding the original sources flaws. Hope this helps.

  6. Thanks guys, I was able to convert it with a small amount of quality loss, tinkering with everything I think is the only way to get it done, but i used your tips and they realy seemed to help out
