hello.
i have looked all over for the answer, but i could not find it...
i am trying to burn an SVCD .bin/.cue file using CDRDAO. i am using the sample files from vcdhelp.com. after i burn it, and then try to play it in my DVD player, it plays back all choppy, as if it skips every 2nd/3rd frame. VCDs work fine, though. i saw in a few place i should use the "-t svcd" switch with cdrdao, but it always complains of an illegal option.
i use the standard
cdrdao write --device 0,6,0 <file>.cue
to burn.
any help would be greatly appreciated,
( and yes, i am a newbie when it comes to this....)
thanks,

Use VCDImager to create your CUE/BIN image of a SVCD.
Then burn that with CDRDAO.
I am pretty sure that CDRDAO does not have a "SVCD" switch.

it's already in SVCD format. i got them (the .bin and .cue files) from the samples section of this site. or do i need to take those files, which i assumed were ready to burn, and use vcdimager against it to format them again?

Okay. I see. You should be able to use CDRDAO to directly burn the CUE/BIN image then... Similarly, there is no SVCD switch with CDRDAO.
I'm not entire sure of the syntax you should use. I think this was discussed in reasonable detail at the VCDImager forums: http://forums.vcdimager.org so if you don't get an answer here, you could always try searching there.
Best of luck.

ok, i am an idiot. i was looking up the wrong DVD player, and mine does not support SVCDs. sorry for wasting all of your time....
is there a way to convert SVCD -> VCD? i know there will be a picture quality loss, but i do not have the $$ right now to buy a new DVD player...
thanks,

You should try Kino http://kino.schirmacher.de/. It does all sorts of conversions and you can also edit (obviously, since it is a non-linear editor). I've also heard that transcode http://www.theorie.physik.uni-goettingen.de/~ostreich/transcode/ is supposed to do this, but I haven't tried it yet. I just burned my first SVCD the other day using Kino and Arson http://arson.sourceforge.net/ (a front end for vcdimage and cdrdao). Worked like a charm.
Good luck. This stuff is a lot of fun.
