Look in the tools section for: Other video encoders/converters
Program is called Tinra. It's a command line program, you can also d/l a gui in the same section. Then read some guides and experiment on how to use the program
"The software said Win XP or better, so I Installed Linux"

  5. I have been working for quite some time on converting real media files. I have used both TINRA and EO Video. So far TINRA does nice quality files, but the audio/video is ALWAYS out of sync. I must also add that it is quite speedy in it's conversions too. It would rule if I could find a way to sync the a/v, but at this point I have had no luck. And everytime I use it I just get frustrated. You get what you pay for w/ TINRA and it's free.... Soo... As for EO Video, I found that the only way to sync the audio/video is to convert the real files to avi first and use divx 5 for video compression and divx audio for audio compression. It works like a charm 90% of the time, but I have found there are a few files that just won't come out synced. Also, it is by far way slower then TINRA and it's not free you can demo it but eventually you have to pay for it. I would try TINRA first and see if you are lucky enough to get files that are in sync when they are done. Then if you don't like the TINRA try the EO Video demo and see if it works out better. Hope this helps!

if you have sucessfully converted rm to avi using tinra, use virtualdub or blaze media pro to extract the audio as wav file.

The problem with converting Real media is always going to be the fact that RM supports variable frame rates, so in the case of some video clips it is impossible coerce it to a constant frame rate which causes the desync problem.

For ease of use I would recommend EOVideo mainly because it can convert directly to VCD compliant MPEG.

I see. and how would you check if your file has VBR? Is there a tool to let you know?

Please do not confuse Variable BIT rate with Variable FRAME rate as they mean very different things. The only way so far that I have been able to confirm this is by playing a clip in Realplayer then watching the framerate which is found under the "Statistics" option, you will notice that when there is no motion onscreen the framerate will drop close to zero.

Originally I found the the problem in the TINRA documentation and confirmed it using the above method on a cartoon that had long sections with no onscreen movement.

As far as I know (i.e. I am guessing) all Realmedia clips use variable frame rate to reduce the filesize as the work done by the compressor would be reduced considerably using this technique.

P.S. If you have a quick computer then use a high efficiency codec (DivX, Xvid, MSMP4) to convert directly to the format you want it in, else use a high speed codec (None, HUFFYUV, DV) and make sure you have lots of diskspace. EOVideo lets you use either strategy or a "fast mode" which can successfully convert native Realmedia clips even on a slow PC, which is why I recommend it.
