  1. Can you burn 4.7 gigs to one media, or just 4.37 gigs as I have read somewhere?

    Thanks

Windows explorer properties tells me that my movie is 4.61 gigs, can I fit that into one dvd -r?

I have ordered the pioneer a05, and will have it in just a few days.

DVD-5 is a single layer DVD that stores up to about 4 700 000 000 bytes and that is 4.37 computer GigaBytes where 1 kilobyte is 1024 bytes (4 700 000 000 / 1024 = about 4589843KB / 1024 = about 4482MB / 1024 = about 4.37GB). So why does it says 4.7 GB on the DVDrs? Because they are not using computer GigaBytes, they use standard kilo where 1 kilobyte is 1000 bytes.

  3. And reading the other thread, you would have learned just the same. Why ask the same thing all over again when it was answered and explained... It's only a question of basic computer knowledge.

johneboy your close but real deal is that DVD disk are really bigger then really show they really are 4.7GB but that has to with unformat disk.
It no diff the let say 700MB CDR as we know it can take up 700MB data but the unformat data 800MB like for VCD or SVCD each time you format or wirte data to a disk there the TOC which take space on the disk.
To be on the safe side you should make your clips a round 4.1GB that allow you for some room for other stuff
