  1. I've spoken with ATi about using a North American AiW Radeon to capture from PAL analogue source.

They said this is supported but analoge playback as PAL is not.

IF that is true (haven't tested with hardware yet), are there any "gotchas" to be aware of? Capture would be by VirtualDub using HUFFYUV or MainConcept DV codec.

Also, would someone please direct me how to make a cable which would have the PAL (SCART?) on one end for use plugging into the VCR and composite (or, prefereably, S-video) on the other? I'll probably start with some kind of PAL extension cord to get the connetor on a cable set and need to add an S-video or RCA connectors.

Are any of the commonly available (say...il Gigante in Italy) PAL VCRs equipped with stabilization and noise reduction?

  2. OK, forget the idea of an adapter cable. JVC makes a VCR model HR-J481M$ that sells online for about $150 that will do PAL, NTSC, and SECAM with composite RCA jacks for output. That's not as nice as S-Video but the price/convenience is very good.

OK, that leaves the aspect of doing the capture of PAL source played into an AiW Radeon for capture with VirtulaDub.

Has anyone done this? What tips will you share?
