I have a divx movie that I extracted the audio from. Thw wav file when played is crystal clear, but after converting the svcd the sound has alot of noise or crackling in it. I already have the toolame program being used as my external decoder for the audio, but I cant seem to fix this problem. It seems that every Svcd that I encode has a Hiss in the sound that wasnt there prior to encoding. Any sugestions?

When you save out the wav with Virtualdub try letting it do the resampling, and make sure *High quality* is ticked.
I never have any audio problems using this method. -
The wav file is not the problem. When I play the wav the sound is excellent, its only when I encode the svcd that the audio of the file has got alot of noise in it. I have even tried demuxing the audio and video to clean it up but when I do that the audio is again nice and clear. Could there be a problem with the player I am using maybe? I use PowerDVD 4.0 XP.
On a sepperate note when I play a svcd file in this program it strechs the movie to full screen when I know it should be wide screen. I cant find any option to change this. How do I? -
I know the wav is not the problem. I suspect the resampling rather than the encoding is the problem. Why not try what I suggested, and see if you still experience the same problem?

I have extracted the audio using virtualdubb using 44100hz high quality but it makes no difference in the mpg. The sound still has an audible hiss in it.
