    i have a dvd rip of the hunt for red october at 4.10 gb in .avi format i would like to know if i could compress that to about 700 mb or so

    that movie is really long....2 hours and 10+ min long...compressing that to 700 MB seems kinda crazy....

    you can try divx, but you prolly won't like the quality.....it's gonna be even worse if you convert to SVCD....

    best bet is to go for 2 cds (at least) or divx and 3 cds (at least) for SVCD
