i have a foreign movie with the subs already hardcoded into the avi. The subs are white, at times hard to see. Spelling mistakes also. Is there anyway i can edit the subs?

the subs are actually on the movie itself (what i mean is that the subs are located within on the movie itself between the black strips at the top and bottom of the screen) if i crop, then wouldn't that mean i lose some of the picture?
