    Hello all,

    I am currently capturing MPEG_2, 720X480 with ATI's Multimedia
Center Ver 7.6, and a Radeon AIW 7500. With a constant bit rate
of 15Meg and 100% Montion Estimate Quality on a Dual 1800+
    Athlon_MP System with Win_XP Pro.

My question has to do with the deinterlace option on the
    MMC_7.6.
    I currently have it enabled.

Then I use DVD2AVI Ver 1.76 to framserve to TMPGEnc Ver 2.54.
    Then I Convert to VCD.

When setting up the converting process in TMPGEnc, there is an
option to encode progressively or interlaced.

These video's are viewed on a computer.
Should I capture non-interlaced and choose non-interlaced to encode.
Should I capture interlaced and convert to non-interlaced or Vice-Verse?

Which should I use and what are the differences for best quality?

    Thanks,
    Chad

  2. I use an AIW 128 with the same version of MMC (7.6). I capture non-interlaced and then use the DVD2AVI/TMPGEnc combination like yourself, but mostly for VBR SVCDs. I've also done quite a few captures/conversions to VCD resolution using this method also and would recommend that the realtime deinterlacing function of MMC remain enabled, as I have yet to find an adequate 3rd party deinterlacer for captures using this method.

BTW lucky old you if you have the speed/diskspace to capture at 15Mbits/s
