  1. I'm trying to convert a NTSC SVCD to PAL format.

I've de-multiplexed the file using TMPG. I tried converting the video with ReStream and the audio with Cooledit pro (saved as an mp3).

However when I try to multiplex the new video and audio files, I get the following message:

    11s packets cause buffer underflow.

The MPEG file might cause error when it played.

Am I doing something wrong, or does someone know a better way to convert from an SVCD from NTSC to PAL?

  2. I would suggest you try burning and playing it. I get this kind of error all the time when using the 'vcd header trick' to get SVCD's to play on my VCD player and they are fine.

I have to ask though are you sure you need to do this conversion? AFAIK, all PAL DVD players will play NTSC disks. They will output either NTSC or PAL-60 and chances are your TV will handle this. If you haven't already I would check your TV/DVD player capabilities for NTSC playback, you may be pleasantly surprised!

  3. 1) Yes, I've burned it, but there's no sound when played pack on my DVD player

    2) My DVD player/TV can play NTSC, but not very well. Video plackback is generally quite smooth, but I get a with widescreen films I get a flickering effect at the top and bottom of the film.

  4. You could try re-emultiplexing with BBmpeg. I don't use it myself but some people on this board swear by it for this kind of thing.

    EDIT

I've de-multiplexed the file using TMPG. I tried converting the video with ReStream and the audio with Cooledit pro (saved as an mp3).
just noticed this bit, do you actually mean you re-emultiplex your video stream with an mp3 audio file?

BTW, never heard of restream, it it some re-encoder or what?

yes I remultiplexed the video with an mp3.

restream just changes the frame rate in MPEG headers.

  6. Do you really need to convert ? Why don't you try it in your DVD player first, and see ?

I have a pioneer DV330 that play both PAL and NTSC VCDs, with only a few missing lines at top and bottom, that anyone can hardly tell.

Save the audio from Cooledit as a .wav. Then use TMPG to convert the .wav to .mp2. (You will need to load the unlock template so you can select stream type as *audio only*).

And make sure when you save your wav it is resampled to 44.1kHz if it is not already!

Well thats why you get no audio! SVCD require mp2 audio, not mp3.

As restream simply changes the framerate info in the header, it will actually playback the video slightly faster. I think therefore you will have to change the length of the audio while in cooledit if you want to maintain audio/video sync. Open your changed video file in WMP and note the length displayed. Use this to shrink the audio (I assume cooledit can do this). Then save as a 44.1khz .wav and convert to mp2 as banjazzer suggested. Then re-multiplex the video with your mp2 file and you should be ok.

    a) How do I resample the audio to 44.1KHZ in Cool Edit? When I select save as I can't see an options to downsample.

    b) How do I convert the downsampled wav to mp2 with TMPGEnc?

    Thanks.

In Cooledit, Edit>Convert sample type. Then save.

Load the *Unlock* template. Set Stream type to *Audio only*. Select audio source. Select destination. Hit *Start*.

  11. Thanks. I still get the "11s packets cause buffer underflow." message with TMPGEnc with multiplexing, but it playbacks fine on my DVD player now
