  1. Hi all,

I have a Pinnacle PCTV Pro card, and thought I'd try out DScaler as I haven't had much success with TV viewing programs in the past. DScaler installed fine and works a treat, however on a restart of the PC I got the 'new hardware found', and the new hardware is a 'mulimedia video controller' and a 'multimedia controller'. I'm guessing this is the video capture card (I haven't recently added any new hardware whatsoever) so I tried reinstalling the card with the Pinnacle CD but it simply isn't working, so no, I can't use any other TV viewing program or even video capture program like virtualdub as it says I have no capture card present. Strange thing is, DScaler still works fine! Can anyone suggest what might be the problem? Any ideas to fix it?

Assuming you are using Win2K or XP:As DScaler provides its own device drivers, you need the WDM drivers for other Win Applications to be installed as well.In order to do this, deinstall all other apps relationg to your TV card, then get the free WDM drivers for your chip (don't use the official drivers, they don't work together with DScaler) install the WDM drivers and the run DScaler.Worked for me (with WIN TV PCI card).

Excellent stuff thanks for your help Dragon, I uninstalled DScaler and all other programs, and reinstalled those btxxx WDM drivers that everyone seems to use. Now programs like Virtualdub are working back to normal. I want to install DScaler though as I was impressed when I was using it, but I don't want to muck up my other programs again... is there anything in particular I need to do first, or should I just try installing it again and hope for the best?! I take it DScaler should work fine in conjunction with the WDM drivers for all the other programs?

If you used those WDM drivers, there is no need to worry. You can use DScaler now any time you like (it shouldn't install any new drivers, just sees the WDM drivers and use its own interface). And right, I'm impressed too by all the features of DScaler. What a pity, the VCR function doesn't work for me.But I can use DSCaler for watching TV and tweaking the BT... chip (in order to get rid of MV and set it to any video standard I need -PAL 60 PAL M - all work).Afetr tweaking, I'm using AVI-IO as VCR.
