Can someone help me please. I converted lot of VCD's using VirtualDab and TMPG, from Avi or Divx to VCD.
Here is my problem, WHY all of a sudden I'm trying to convert an Avi file which is around 350meg to MPEG using TMPG Templates and the file is around 1.2 gig. Tried converting other movies and still the same problem.
Thanks

Just a Novice here,
But not sure of what you are asking....
An AVI or DivX is a compressed format and when you convert to MPG it is uncompressed................
I do alot of AVI/DivX/OGM/XviD Conversions and the file will almost always double in size............
I use the Decompress.exe from AVI2VCD to decompress the AVI then use VirtualDub to extract the AVI and WAV then use TMPG to convert to MPEG2............
If anyone thinks I am wrong Let me know............
Thanks

hey thrash just to let you know mpegs are compressed as well just another form as a matter of fact the divx codec is a variation of the mpeg4 codec.
miamomo just as a thought tmpeg might be having difficultings in properly recognizing your file so go into your settings(vfapi settings to be more specific) and increase the priority of your directshow plugin. This will probably correct the prob. Note that a 350mb file when converted to mpg2 depending on the bitrate will probhably be 2 to 3 times larger than the source divx. Hope this helps.

Nothing else matters. If after taking these into account correctly TmpGenc still predicts an over large result there are things in avi's that TmpGenc doesnt like. A common one is VBR audio. Open up the avi in virtualdub and if it gives a warning about VBR audio that is almost certainly your problem. Follow the guides on this site on how to extract the audio to uncompressed wav and encode with that as your audio source.
