I loaded my movie into Virtual Dub and it said:
Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'DX50' (unknown)
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media PLayer, are not suitable.
I loaded it into G Spot and it says
This section simulates playing the file the same using the same system as Windows Media Player uses.
In this case DirectShow was unable to play the file.
Error number 0x00040257
Error name VFW_S_VIDEO_NOT_RENDERED
Full error text: cannot play back the video stream: no suitable decompressure could be found.
What do I need to download to play this vid?

SOunds like you installed ffdshow and it is registered for divx 5, perhaps. Reinstall divx 5 www.divx.com
Run the ffdshow configurator and uncheck divx 5 in it. -
I have had this problem with some divx5 files. I had installed the nimo codec pack with divx5, but some files would still not play. Installing the latest divx5 codec solved the problem. Follow the link that duhmez gave.
