I used dvd2avi, tempeg, tempeg template, vcd format I backed up 2 movies, why are pictures stretched vertically?

Sounds like you forgot to set the source aspect ratio correctly. If the DVD was 16:9 widescreen, you need to set the source video aspect ratio in TMPGEnc to match (under the advanced tab), and make sure preserve aspect ratio is enabled. This will letterbox the video, but it won't look stretched anymore.
