ok this is the problem i have a dvd that is 16:9 1:85.1 ratio and 29.970 fps now my question is in dvd2avi how much do you crop or clip so you don't cut out peoples faces. " the dvd is 720 x 480" and should the sides be clipped or cropped or just leave as is. and when reducing resolution how much can you reduce i know smaller is better but i don't want it to small.
also when i put it in dvd2avi it looks like it's fullscreen and it has black bars on the sides and not from top to bottom

I would use DVD2AVI from within Gordian Knot. This way you can visually crop, maintain aspect ratio, and save an Avisynth script to do the job.
