  1. Can I not just let Nero do the conversion or is it SO much better to use TMPGE or other softwares?

  3. Hi Guys

Once converted an AVI file to MPEG using TMPGEnc.
Can i use Nero to write this on to a CD. If so how do I go about doing it,cos Nero asks a few questions like
    a) what kind of CD you need to burn - audio, video, data.

Should I be still choosing the Video option and then copy the MPEG file to the burning area( thats what I call it) and then burn or is there another way.

    Thanks

    Raj

in the nero wizard choose new cd - then VideoCD. just drag your mpeg and drop into the new cd area. remember that when burning a VideoCD the file can be up to 800Mb. i also suggest using a slower burning speed like 16x or lower.

  5. Thanks for that.
One more question. It took me 14 Hrs to convert a 720 MB AVI file to 2 MPEG files using TMPGEnc. Does it normally take this long or is it just me.
Is there another way to speed this process up.

Also you mentioned about reducing the burning speed to 16X would this have any effect on the performance of the written CD, i mean the quality.

Only way (given the same encoder and encoding settings like # of passes, motion detection, filters...) to significantly speed the encoding process up, is a faster processor.

As for burning, I never burn a VCD at higher rate than 1/2 of the writers max speed. Compared to encoding time, you might as well throw a coupla minutes more into the burning process. On the whole, it's just a few %

That is an impossible question to answer without knowing your pc specs, the format of the output mpeg file and if you are using any filters or not.

No it wont affect the quality, but it could affect the compatability. Also you could have problems with the image and sound breaking up where the data wasn't written properly to the discs. This tends to be pretty media dependant, I burn to intenso discs at 24x with no problems.
