First some background. I currently own a GForce4 VIVO using the philips SAA7108E 9bit encoder chip and a cheap bt878 card. The philips chip provides a much cleaner and better looking capture than the bt878. Unfortunately, bright scenes become completely washed out and there is no driver support for whitebalance. the bt878 picture is noisy and not quite as good as the philips (when it is working correctly) most likely quality of the bt878 card is to blame. I am using current drivers for the GF4 and modified drivers from this site for the bt878. The quality difference can be seen before and after conversion to SVCD. I am trying to cap VHS home movies and broadcast TV.
now my question, after dealing with these 2 boards, I am contemplating moving to an ADVC-50 or ADVC-1394. Does anyone know what bit per pixel the canopus product uses... 8bit, 9bit, etc. any info would be appreciated.
