  1. Is it possible to create a (S)VCD with pictures and also movie?
I was thinking in authoring it with a menu that links the movie and a put also a link to a kind of slide show!

Yes it is possible to do this with a SVCD or a VCD. You will have to create still pictures for any still menu's and mpgs for any moving menu's. You will then have to hand author everything. There are some commercial programs like Winoncd and Ulead movie factory (something like that) which can do relatively complex menu authoring in a fairly easy to understand fashion.

If you want an incredibly powerful and free alternative use Vcdimager and xml scripting or use the VCDeasy gui for it.

I wrote a guide on authoring menu's in a (S)VCD, though its not complete. Hopefully it will help you some.

  3. Nero does this very easily. The problem I have is to have moves, pics AND BACKGROUND AUDIO! I havent found a program that will incorporate all 3 with pics in high res.

gadgethead: Nero's menu creation is extremely limited and buggy. I suggest you try vcdeasy, as it does all three of the things you just mentioned and more.

If by hi res you mean higher than 480x480/576, then you can't have that in a menu with sound at all if you want your SVCD to be compliant. A menu with sound is just a segment, an mpg program stream. The standard only allows for 480x480/576 for segments. Of course you could easily just make the SVCD non-standard and use whatever resolution you want. Stills without sound of course can be 704x480/576.

You can also create an actual mpg still and then set the audio to a certain source in your xml script. I'm not sure if this is compliant or not but most players seem to not be able to play it anyway.

Just get vcdeasy, its a very intuitive program and can literally create just about anything that you can imagine. Best of all its free.

Probably is compliant. If a SVCD player complies with how the recommendations in the reference documentation suggest, it should work (basically, an mpeg still followed by an audio only segment item). The player is supposed to keep the last image on screen until some other image is displayed. Unfortunately, as you've stated, it doesn't seem to work on many players...
