  1. I have a VCD which has a two-channel audio track. Track 1 is in Chinese, Track 2 in English. I have sucessfully converted the .DAT file from the VCD to an .MPG file, but both audio channels play at the same time.

    What I'd like to do is excerpt clips from the VCD as either .AVI or .MPG files (something I can then use in Powerpoint), taking the Video and Track 2 of the audio, (the English). Any thoughts on how I can do this, tools to use, etc?

    Thanks!

  2. Open your MPEG file in TMPGEnc in MPEG Tools and demux it. You should get a .mp2 file and a video file. Open the .mp2 file in Goldwave sound editor ( shareware). You can select the required channel Edit->Channel -> left or right.
    Edit -> Copy .
    Edit -> paste new.
    Save your new file.

  3. Thanks for the reply!

    I did as you suggested, used TMPGEnc to "demux" the file (had to think a bit before I realized this meant "de-multiplex". I then took the resulting .mp2 audio file and brought it into Goldwave and behold! - I have a left and right channel, Chinese on track 2, English on Track 1. I copied Track 1 (the English) over Track 2, now giving me two identical channels of English audio. Now I see Goldwave can save this resulting edited file in various file types, but the original .mp2 is not one of them.

    So...what now? And assuming I can save this edited audio, how do I recombine this with my video so as to have a final .MPG or .AVI clip?
    You're dealing with a newbie here you know... Don't assume I know anything - grin.

    Thanks again.

    @Truelight:
    You're halfway there. Save your L+R English track from Goldwave as a linearPCM *.wav file.

    Open up TMPGEnc, add your wav file adjust settings (Audio only ES, Mp1layer2, ?224kbps, Stereo,...) and encode as an MP2.

    Open up TMPGEnc's tools-Simple multiplex. Add your saved MPV (M1V whatever) and your new MP2. Run Mux and now use your new MPG however you want.

    Good luck,

    Scott
