  1. I want transfer a bunch of older VHS tapes I have to SVCD. I want to know the best way to go about this. I bought a Dazzle100 but it seems to have a lot of problems. While captureing it will hang up and stop capturing. Sometimes its 5mins sometimes 1 hour. If you think the dazzle will work maybe someone knows what is wrong with it. Will the Dazzle software give me a good quality SVCD. I have been using DVD2SVCD to backup my dvds and it works fantastic. I would like to try and get close to that quality. Any help would be great.

Go take a look at the Capture Cards section of this site. For the best quality consider getting a Canopus ADVC-100.

If you go that route virtually any capture software (except virtualdub) will work then convert to MPEG with TMPGEnc.

Also check out the Winnov cards. The Videum 1000 series are awesome, and audio sync is guaranteed.

I have tried the Radion line (junk in my opinion) too fuzzy.
ASUS cards with video in, excellent capture, but some audio sync issues unless you have a fast machine.

and the Winnov Videum Av and 1000. The AV is not bad (640x480@15fps ok, 640x480@30fps drops frames big time), but the 1000 is amazing, 640x480@30fps with 5 frames dropped in 2 hours and excellent quality.
