In the bitrate calculator from this site I switched to the advaced mode and set it to 2 audio tracks @ 224kbps. It then said my max bitrate for my svcd has to be 2272kbps. Is this true? I know svcd added bitrate of audio and video has to be around 2700 or something but what I guess i'm asking is this number the combined with ALL audio tracks or just the ones playing? If it was just the ones playing i could up the max to 2496.

I suppose the bitrate calculator just has a bug, I never noticed that before. You are correct, the max allowable total bitrate includes the video + audio + additional overhead that will be played at any given time. So as far as your max total bitrate is concerned, you only need to account for the audio stream with the highest bitrate.

The total allowable bitrate for a svcd is 2778kbits. You should be able to safely use a max bitrate of about 2500kbits with two audio streams at 224 each, but from my experience TMPGenc is not very accurate about bitrate allocation so you may want to lower the max a little to compensate.

The java calculator on this site is very good and will give you an accurate avg bitrate, which is really all you should be using a bitrate calculator for. I would strongly recommend, however, using FitCD instead to calculate bitrate. It will take into account everything in your process from the multiplexing to the authoring program, giving you the most accurate bitrate calculation.

Thanks for clearing that up. I just got fitcd and that's a whole lot better. I might even try avisynth for frameserving instead of just dvd2avi, just for the fun of it.
