  1. I tried to "burn in" the subtitles with Mpeg2decX as it was said in this forum. But although all subtitles are present in the .vob file (I checked with vlc) I don't get them to see neither as a preview during the decoding process nor afterwards. In the subtitle menu of Mpeg2decX I tried some numbers and the code "0x21 bd" that is shown for the subtitle in vlc, but nothing works. What's wrong?

  2. to use a well known phrase: "hmmm, strange... it should work..."

The only thing I can think of is that you have entered an invalid number for the track. You should try 0 or 1 or 2, did you do that? You should not use the "0x21" format.
Also, you haven't moved the subs off screen, have you? Use 0 as offset to be sure. (I use 20-70 to get them at the absolute bottom, but that would be bad if you were going to watch the movie on a 16:9 TV)

PS. If you are making a DVD instead of an SVCD you might want to check this out:

  3. I searched through several forums for information on how to include subtitles on VCD or SVCD. I have tried the multiplexing method with both SVCD and CVD subtiltes without success. Now I am attempting to burn the subtitles in to the move and am giving Mpeg2decX a go, unfortuanately I can't figure out how to load the subtilte file. The import button on the subtitlte window is grayed out. Anyone know how to fix this? Or does anyone know a better method of adding subtiltes to mpeg files or even avi files before conversion to either VCD or SVCD.

  4. You can't add subtitles to an existing mpeg with mpeg2decX. That program adds the subtitles to the video image ("burning" them in) when decoding the vob to a quicktime movie.
