Hey guys, a few questions.
First i'd like to say this is a great site, one of the best I've ever seen
Anyway to my point.
First of all, I know how you use a .avi split it burn it etc, but does this take about 5 hours for everyone? or is just my comp? (Using TMPGEnc)
Also second of all, I have a .mpg around 700mb file in size which i downloaded, do i still use TPMGEnc, to spilt this for 2 cd's?
Thanks in advance

about encoding times - its all a metter of hardware.
if you have a fast computer it will finish faster.
since i dont know what hardware you use, its hard to tell if the time
is ok for your comuter.
i have a Amd athlon xp 2000+, and it takes me about 2.5 hours
to encode a 2 hour movie using Tmpeg - dvd>vcd.
but i can make a faster encoding using cce encoder.
about your 700mb mpeg - it should fit on one cd without a problem.HELL AINT A BAD PLACE TO BE -
If it is a standard VCD with a bitrate of 1150kbps, then you can fit 80 minutes on an 80 minute disc, because at this bitrate 1 minute of video = 10MB and in mode 2 an 80 min 700MB disc will hold nearly 800Mb of video.
However if you were to lower the bitrate you could fit more than 80 minutes onto an 80min disc, likewise if you increased the bitrate you would get less than 80 min on an 80min disc.
If you deviate from the standard 1150kbps then it is no longer a VCD it is an XVCD. -
ok, and is there anyway you can burn .avi's without converting into MPG?
Also, Do i need to do anything to an mpg i've downloaded? -
To burn to DVD, VCD, or SVCD the file has to be a compliant MPEG, not an .avi!
If you like the mpeg the way it is and it complies with the requirements of your final desired product, then you don't have to do anything. I'd suggest studying the "what is" section at the top left of this site...
Good luck! -
You can burn the AVI to CD just like any other file, but there's no "AVI VCD" format that lets you play it on your stand alone DVD (even if there's one DivX capable stand alone in the market).
Not all mpegs are suitable "out of the box" for creating a (s)(x)VCD, so you'd better check what bitrates and resulutions are used, and if needed, remultiplex as VideoCD/Super VideoCD.
