so i just downloaded nero, cuz i heard its one of the better programs to burn vcd's with. but when i went to run it, i msg box came up that said i had "auto insert notification" on, and it is highly recommended that i should turn it off.

my question is WTF is auto insert notification, and how would i be able to turn on and off this feature?
thanks for any replies in advanced!

  2. Auto Insert Notification is where you put a CD in your CD drive and Windows automatically knows that there is a CD there and tries to read it (it will lauch whatever is specified in the autorun.ini file if one exists).

This is potentially hazardous to CD burning. A blank CD isn't particularly interesting to Windows. However, once the TOC is written, it does become interesting. Windows can be persistent and stupid enough to interrupt the burning process (= coaster) if AIF is left on.

I'm under the impression that most burning proggies automatically turned AIF off -- and back on if they are clever afterwards. If you want to do it yourself (Win95/9:

Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> System --> Device Manager --> (your burner) --> Settings --> Uncheck AIF

I believe you can do this through TweakUI if you have that applet installed as well.
