A little over a year ago, I bought a Plexter 16x/10x/40a CD-R/CD-RW because it was claimed the best cdr burner on the planet. It has definitley lived up to those claiming this. I have had no problems whatsoever burning at 16x with anything. Flawless every time, with perfect quality. No pops in the music, and video quality is exceptional. I have been through 4 100 (generics) spindles with zero, yes that's correct, zero coasters. I would like to buy the Pioneer A05, however I have to replace one of my optical drives. Since the other is a DVD-ROM I need to keep that one in place for direct copying. My question is, (those with the A04, because the A05 has not been out long enough for any real test data) how is the quality with the A04 buring CD-Rs. Will I still have the incredible reliability as the plextor with CD Burning? I understand the A05 will burn CD's at 16x so I will not gain any speed there, but I certainly don't want to lose reliability.

Thanks for any replies. I'm having a hard time giving up my Plextor

  2. I used my A04 Pioneer to burn:

    1) Audio cd's (on the fly).
    2) Data cd's
    3) Video cd's
    4) Video DVD's
    5) Data Dvd's

For audio cd's i can say that in the speed of 8x the quality is PERFECT!!!
You can't tell the difference between original and copy. I use YAMAHA CRW-70 at work (with Audio master quality) and the copies between yamaha (at 16X) and pioneer (at 8x) Are the same to me!!

I would say GO FOR IT if you don't care about -8x.
