Help with what software to use in DVD to DVD-R

I running a AMD 1800 with 600 RAM and over a hundred gigs of harddrive space at 7200rpm. Also have a Plextor 24/10/40A CD Writer and just recently purchased a Pioneer A-04 DVD Writer.
What program would be best for backing up my DVD's. I tried using DVD X Copy and it writes the DVD to my harddrive but when I try to burn the backup I get and error with the program. The error is a microsoft error that closes the program and ask to send a log message to tech. I tried backing up a DVD I own "Twister". I also used Steinberg DVD MovieCopySuite and it says that I cannot copy due to copy protection on the disk. again "Twister"
Any suggestions would be nice.

well since you have dvd x copy once the files are on your hard drive burn them using nero if you get that error message. otherwise just go though the guides on this website.

The error I get is:
DVDXCopy MFC Application has encountered a problem and needs to close.
