Alba DVD 108xi player from Argos (UK)

Like most of the people, i too, bought the Alba DVD 108 as a second DVD player for VCD/S-VCD etc.

However, my model number is Alba DVD 108xi and it doesn't work with the "2812" code. Does anyone know the code for the DVD 108xi player so i can playback VCD's and any CD-R's etc?

When did you buy it, because argos are also supplying the DVD114 as an alternative to the 108, its not in their catalogue but if you ask for a 108 you will often get a 114, and this plays everything out of the box, no hacks required.

Anyway the code for the 108, is press button 1 as the tray is closing.

I tried to get Alba 114 from Argos on 15th Nov. But local superstore only had 108s and 109s (the lady checked all the boxes!). I bought a 114 elsewhere (interestingly enough had Argos Cat no. on box). But it won't play anything on CD-R (not even music CD-Rs). CD-RW however is ok, VCD MP3's created with Nero worked 1st time, but CD-R is no go.
I will put a question on new thread.

NB, just seen Bush 2024 in Tesco, identical to Alba 114.

Thats strange , I have 3 of the alba DVD114's and 3 friends of mine bought 1 on my reccomendation. They all play everything.

I see there is some issues with this machine.Can I therefore suggest trying the Cyberhome CH402 from WHSMITHS @£79 .THIS ONE DOES PLAY EVERYTHING.EVen has a nice feature of Jpeg viewing with slide shows.And there is a Multi region hack around.I have tried it on
VCD,SVCD,DVD-R,DVD-RW,DVD+RW and MP3's (on both CD (650mb etc) and a DVD under UDF/ISO namely 4.7G of MP3).As yet havent anything it cant play..hope this helps !

i went to argos and ended up with the 108xi too
curiously enough when i first got it after a few remote bashing all my dvds worked great with no hacks at all but since then i hwave not been able to play a single vcd on it

are argos easy for me to return my 108xi and get the 114?

How long have you had it, their policy is a 16 day money back no quibble guarantee. If you have has it longer than that take it back and tell them it's not playing CDR's. Even if they are not advertised as playing VCD, they are advertised as playing CDR.
