  1. Just yesterday to endavoured into my first DivX to SVCD project. Using the very informative DivX to SVCD guide at vcdhelp.com, I extracted the audio to a seperate file first with virtualdub. I then proceded to encode to SVCD with TMPEGEnc. For the first half of the encoding (CD1 of 2) everything was fine - sound is perfect for the full CD. However, when encodeding the second half (CD2 of 2) I experience heavy sound displacement.

What am I doing wrong - I extracted the audio to a seperate file to avoid exactly this problem!?

    Suggestions will be highly appreciated.

    Hound,

unfortunately, whenever you take a divX-to-SVCD/VCD, you will have the
unfortunate issue with sound. The most usuall cause is the KEY displacement
theorim. If the key is too far apart (high a number) your audio will not
synch correctly, because you ARE NOT ACCURATELY landing on the video
frame. ie, if KEY was set to 1, you'd have no problem, but if key is set
to say, 300 or even higher ones, your audio will not synch up.

I think that math goes like this (correct me if I'm wrong)
Assuming you clip has ben set to 300 keys, bla, bla, bal. . .
    * 60fps per second
    * 300 keys (could mean frames or could mean seconds)
Ok, then, assuming the above, then, for every 60 frames, a KEY is set.
And, at a KEY setting of 300, that would probably mean: 60/300=5 keys
in 5 minutes of video, or 1 key per minute.

So, when you are say, at frame 400, you are not exctly at 400, or something
    like that.

I think that the above analygie sort of explain the audio sync issue in a
rought kind of way. But, someone correct me if I'm wrong (or close)

  4. tenders - tried your guide out (no errors were reported by VirtualDub), but the problems remains.

What puzzles me the most is that I can convert the 1st half of the file without ANY sound problems, and then have HEAVY sound displacement when subsequently trying to convert the 2nd half.

I guess I'll try another file. Maybe this one's just bad..

in order for my guide to work(as far as sync problems) you have to convert the whole file first, then cut it with bbmpeg. search for my guide on that also 8)

  6. Try encoding the whole movie as 1 file, then use tmpgenc to cut it.
