First, I am new to DVD burning, just bought my first drive yesterday - Sony DRX-500. Hopefully, this is the right forum for this post, if not, accept my apologies.
Will the new Sony Drives support the larger media (> 4gig) when available? If so, would this be a firmware upgrade?
If not, what is the best way go about burning MPEG'S > 4.7 gig onto existing media? (This may be a question for another forum)
Thanks,
Rick

No the Sony or any other DVD+-R(W) will not support burning over 4.7GB. If you need to burn more you have options:
If data or movie: Use 2 DVDs or use dual sided media
If movies only: Use the DVD9 to DVD5 guides on this site to reduce the amount of movie data to that amt that will fit in 4.7gb
The new firmware releases will add more compatibility and probably 4x media use.Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'
