  1. I downloaded an AVI file upon burning/encoding with Nero it hangs on 93% encoded. But it plays ok in Windows Media player. How can I make a VCD with this AVI file ?

Use a separate encoder like TMPG. You'll get better results too.

When you say it "doesnt open the file" are you clicking the buttons at the bottom for "Video sorce" etc

TMPG will convert AVI's thats what it does

If you click on the AVI does it play ok ?. You have the codec installed for that file type ?

  6. I just downloaded my first avi (divx) movie. At first it would not play with WMP, but I just downloaded the Divx 4.0 codec and it plays now. But, when I tried to open the file with TMPGEnc ver. Beta 12i, it errors with: File "..." can not open, or unsupported. Any ideas?

    Wow....

Hold on, when the movie was made it may have used any of the popular compressors (Codec's). In order for you to play/edit you need to install the same one as the movie.

DivX 311 alpha, SMR and some new Mpeg4 codecs should all be instaled ready for use.

Take a look on this site, it has some of them listed

  9. Try using tmpgenc12a. It worked for me when I had this problem. It's in the tools section on the left. You may also want to try this method in this thread if that doesn't work.

  10. I went to the following page again today:
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/vcdtools.htm#codecs
and downloaded the Krystal Studio pack. Installed it and now everything is working. I had a feeling there were something to do with all the different codecs out there. Thanks for the advice. I hope this helps as well. I need to get more cdrw's to try the new converted avi out to see if it will work as a vcd (after mpeg-1 encoding with tmpg). I've had problems with previous encoded mpeg-1 when the originals were from my Sony Dig. camera.
