  1. i have a geforce4 with Tvout & have noticed large blocks on flat dark surfaces when playing divx through the TVout

    is this because of the tv resolution being lower than the monitor because it is not there when played on the monitor or is there another reason which i am missing?

    any help or advice on how to get around this or make it less noticable would be much appreciated

    Hi
    Have u turned up the quality in the divx decoder configuration???

    The picture on your TV will be slightly worse than the computer picture.

    It will also depend on the quality of the DivX file.
    Your profile says Geforce2 but you say Geforce4 in your post??
    The geforce4 tv out is better than geforce2 I have just upgraded myself.

  3. yeah i just upgraded to a geforce 4 ti4200 & you are right about the quality of divx

    a 2 disc divx does look better on the tvout than a 1 disc

    but there are definately still blocks in dark scenes

    boboyo,
    I know what you are talking about. ben playing w/ this issue for some
    time.

    Basically its a number of things (and the issues that cause them can change
    at any time, depending on your system quirness [like mine])

    Ok, for one:
    * the software player for your divX files could be it.
    * or, the divX quality, ie, resolution, bitrate, quality of actual divX content
    * TV-OUT settings/setup
    * combo of the above

    The only thing I can recommend you do/try is:
    * load up Vdub
    * load in your divX movie and play it through your TV out.

    I've noticed that when the above was tried on my machine, I noticed that
    the quality was MUCH better. However, today, I tried this again, and I got
    the same poor quality, even when I used DVD as my source via VFAPI
    as a psuedo-AVI. So, again, it could just depend on/in your system's
    quirky setup or behaviour for that day. In my cased, it's today. It's not
    showing very good quality (but that doesn't matter, sicne I don't actually
    watch divX via my TV-OUT (or watch it at all) -- just playing w/ it at the
    moment) I know that tomrrow, when I come in from work, if I try the
    above, the quality will be back. I've had this happen to me on and off.
    It depends on where my system is at. How corrupt it is today or thoughout
    today. And, I've had 4 crashes so far today. So, I know where it's at right
    now.
