  1. My dvd player can't read SVCDs so I use the vcd header trick with Tmpgenc. But every time i play a movie on my dvd player it starts showing green blocks, skips, freezes, etc. I burn all my movies at 4x with Memorex CD-RWs because my crappy dvd player can't read CD-Rs.

I think it's tmpgenc thats messing it up so I want to try another program. Is there another one thats able to do the vcd header trick?

  2. Also in tmpgenc what is the difference between MPEG-1 Video CD and MPEG-1 Video CD (Non standard)? Which one do i have to use?

  3. perhaps if you gave a little more information, like what kind of DVD player you have and if you have confirmed the VCD header trick with the dvd list on the left.................

mpeg 1 video CD is the standard VCD, which is basically 1150bitrate and 44.1 audio. Non standard is anything outside of the specs.

  4. I have the green blockyness, freezes, skips problem too.. mostly with svcd;s with header trick but also with standard vcd's so i guess its not a problem with the header

i also burn at 4x speed on a cd-rw and my player is a sony ns305

sometimes the problem starts and never ends and sometimes its just for a few secs or few mins

its not just some blocks, no it floods the screen, screen gets all messed up, sound too, and sometimes image just stops and it wont play anymore

thats only after burning it on cd and it happens on THE PC ASWELL

    I burn on imation

btw ive had this problem with other speeds to but i usually burn at 4x on imation but sometimes faster on a verbatim

This isn't a problem with the header. This is a problem with your DVD player struggling to read your media.

The difference between MPEG-1 Video-CD and MPEG-1 Video CD (non-standard) is that with one, it multiplexes the mpeg strictly as a VCD (which means, if your video clip doesn't have the right specs, it's going to be screwed up).

The "non-standard" multiplex setting multiplexes the video clip as if it were for VCD (e.g., the pack size). The is the correct setting to use if you are making an XVCD of any sort.
