When I have a vcd film I do the following conversion :-
1. Copy the vcd dat files onto hard drive, then change to *.mpg files
2. Merge mpg files using Tmpgenc
3. Re-encode new mpg file into dvd format using Tmpgenc
4. Author new mpg file using Ulead DVD Movie Factory
5. Burn new DVD
If I have a SVCD film I cannot do the above:-
1. in the mpeg2 folder the mpg file won't copy onto my hard drive (unspecified file format or similar)
2. If I try to merge mpg files using tmpgenc the program freezes during first file
The films are not corrupt as they play perfect on standalone players and Powerdvd.
Please help, this is driving me mad.

To extract mpeg-2 files from an SVCD, use isobuster. Just right click the .mpg file and select extract but filter only m2f2 frames.
BTW, you don't need to convert your mpeg-1's to DVD format if they are VCD resolution and you won't gain anything by doing so. All you need to do is convert the audio to 48Khz and author as DVD-Video. See the guides on this site for more info.
As for your SVCD's once extracted. It is possible (sometimes) to 'force' them onto a DVD-r, again there is a guide for this. If this doesn't work for you I would reccomend converting to CVD resolution (352*480/576) for DVD. Its worth a try anyway. -
Thanks for the fast response. Copied the mpg files first time and no problems whatsoever.
THANKS AGAIN.
