  1. Does anyone own a Phillips DVD 711 and been able to play DVD-R/RWs in it? According to this forum the player will play this format but according to a reply I got from the Phillips website, they claim the player is not compatible with DVD-Rs. If you have been able to succesfully play DVD-Rs on this player could you please let me know what authouring & burning programs you have used? I have been using DVD Movie Factory and have only been able to get the menu to come up but not play the disc on my player (the same discs play fine on my car DVD player.) Is there a setting on the player I have set wrong?

  2. Yeah, I have the Philips 711 and can play DVD-R and DVD-RW without too many problems. I didn't have to change any settings, etc.

I'm using DVDit to author. With DVDit (as I assume most programs can do), you can author and either (1) burn to disk or (2) write to hard drive then burn with another program. I've burned DVD-R/Ws with DVDit and also with Nero. The DVD-R's (princo and the double-sided discs from meritline) always work fine in the 711.

The DVD-RW's are a big pain in the *ss. They will work eventually, but it takes forever to recognize the disk and a lot of times the 711 will spit it out 10 times or more before finally reading it.

If the player is recognizing your DVD and showing a menu, it might be a navigational problem with the way you authored the disk. I had this same thing happen to me a couple of times -- DVD played fine on the PC but only showed the menu on the Philips 711. Both times, after I re-authored by redoing all my menu links, the disk worked fine.

Or maybe try authoring with your program and buring with Nero.
