Is it recommended to convert ripped .vob's to Divx first before converting/encoding to VCD?
Is there sync issues perhaps with direct .vob to VCD convert?
I did some small test pieces and the sync seemed way off during the direct route .Is this normal?
I also tried to extract the AC3 and convert to WAV ....but that went screwie as well.
Any suggestions appreciated.

It certainly not necessary to make an .avi from the vob files. Use DVD2AVI toopen the vob's and generate the .d2v project file for the video. Audio, use decode to .wav file in DVD2AVI. Tmpeg does not handle .ac3 files well but has no problem with .wav files. I've never encountered an audio synch problem with DVD2AVI making ad2v and wav file. Most installations of Tmpeg won't even open an .ac3 file. It maybe be digital but more processing means poorer quality.

I have done it and had good results, the trick is dont compress too much with the divx, I always use a quality based 1 pass(would use 2pass but Im lazy and havent looked up how to get the log file error fixed) in DVD2AVI with DivX 4 and 85% quality (minimal).

Thanks guys .
I think I'm on the right track now.
My initial confusion is the fact that the name "DVD2AVI" indicated to me that it was a DVD to AVI convertor (which I'm sure it can be) as opposed to being used as a frameserver creating a .d2v project."Today is only yesterdays tomorrow"
