  1. Hi all, I have an avi movie that I wanted to convert to VCD so
I could play it in my dvd player.

Right-clicking on the .avi file gave properties as follows:

    audio format: MPEG_layer 3
    sample rate : 48 kHz

    frame rate: 23.976 frames/second
    .............................................

ok, so this is what i did:

I used virtualdub to extract the audio as a wave, I went "File" -> "save wav" and saved the wave (under "audio", it was set to "direct stream copy")

Then using TMPeng, I used the .avi as the video source, and the extracted
    WAV as the audio source.

I encoded an hour of the movie for the first VCD disc,
then encoded the last 40 mins for the second vcd.

So, the first disc was perfect, great sound an good picture, but the second
disc was terrible, the sound was out of sync by about 10 secs! Not just 1 or 2, but 10!

Why did this happen, especially if the first disc was perfect?

I used the same setting and files? why is the sound out of sync?

Hope somone can help me. Thanks...........Steven

This is where you went wrong.

You need full processing mode, and make sure you have no compression set for the audio. This will decompress the audio to a pcm wav file. At this stage you can also convert from 48KHz to 44.1KHz. You then use this wav file as the audio source when you encode to mpg.
