  1. Is it possible to convert a DIVX to VCD without losing any of the DIVX's quality? If so can someone please tell me how? Thank you.

  3. Yeah I already have....and I have already converted to a VCD. The quality is alot worse in VCD format, and i jus wanna know if its possible to convert it without losing quality.

  4. The best way to get a quality VCD is to have a good source - while divx looks good on a PC it compresses the video alot and recompressing it to VCD takes alot of the quality out.

    You should try divx to SVCD and you should see a bit better quality.

    For the ultimate quality, buy the DVD.

  5. What are you using to convert to mpg. If you have a good quality divx to start with TMPGEnc makes a good job of the conversion.

    The quality is worse for 3 reasons:

    1. VCD resolution is much less than your average DivX.

    2. Although VCD bitrate is greater than many DivX, it is a constant bitrate encode. Hence DivX can use more bits where the material needs it, and less where it doesn't. DivX is also a highly optimised method of encoding.

    3. Any encoding process means a drop in quality, however small. So the more encodes - the worse the quality.


    SVCD can address both the first 2 points, and a properly done DivX ->SVCD encode watched on a TV should prove very satisfactory.
