Hi guys,

Just finished building a system for my parents. However, my Dad's decided he'd like to be able record from his camcorder to the computer as a result the existing videocard is no good

Current setup

AMD XP2000+ (1666 real clock speed, Palomino core)
Asus A7M266 motherboard (AMD Northbridge, VIA Southbridge)
256Mb PC2100 Crucial CAS2 DDR
Seagate Barracuda 40Gb ATA100, 2Mb cache, 7200rpm (primary master)
Liteon 48/12/48 CD-RW (secondary slave)
On board sound via a C-Media 8738
Creative Geforce 2 GTS 32Mb

His camcorder is a Sony TRV35E Video8 (PAL).

I know many of the PCI capture cards don't play nicely with VIA chipsets and hence I thought of a VIVO Graphics card. I know ATI has a better reputation for VIVO than Nvidia.

I've seen the Sapphire Technologies Radeon 9000 VIVO's reasonably priced here (I'm in the UK). I know from 3D point of view the 9000's are slightly better than the Geforce 4MX's (not really relevant as the GTS is overkill for their needs) but I don't know anything about their video capturing capabilities.

I really don't know anything about video capture. Would adding this card to the system give a suitable setup for video capture?

I assume he wants to transfer his holiday movies to CD's. Is this easy to do. He's not particularly PC-savvy (but I am).

Any advice greatfully appreciated.
