I tried Kazaa, Bearshare, and WinMx after Napster was filtered. Bearshare (www.bearshare.com) was awful, it downloaded very slow. Kazaa (www.kazaa.com) was better, with a nice interface, but there was a 128 bitrate limit on Mp3s. In my opinion WinMx (www.winmx.com) is the best, because it is the most like Napster, and you can Download at high speeds.

about Kazaa, Grokster & Morpheus they are identical and the same but the speed is high because the files are stored on other people's computers, not servers. Also with the new versions there is no longer a 128 bitrate restriction on mp3s. I think that everyone is going for them because of their nice interface and that you can resume.

i tried MyNapster and i got to say it's ssllllllooooowww...
But that's also maybe b'cos i'm live in SEA, and on 56K modem :b
So much talk about WinMX, guess i'll give it a try
As for MyNapster i'm uninstalling it... -
I am using IRC. And the best thing is that you only need mIRC. Go to any network (I am using Efnet), search for channels containing the word 'divx', join channels and use the trigger to connect. Chooose a movie You want, and that's it.
And if there are to many people, you will wait in a queue, and as same as Bearshare (also a great tool), when is your turn, the download will start automaticly. Just don't forget to enable resuming and autoget. After that You can go to sleep, and You will wake with 2-3 new movies.
IRC and Bearshare is for me the best. And of course FTP search engines. Just look for .avi.
Have a nice time

Honestly for movies..they all suck!, like it was once stated..u spend hours downloading Pearl Harbor to find out its some knights of the round table BS....
IRC & Newsgroups are the place to be first, then maybe FTP sites...especially since thats where all the movie ripping groups release their stuff first....to me IRC is like getting new music off the Net, Kazaa & all that other file sharing is like getting new music off the radio....However since Kazaa was technically the subject line of the post...it is FAR from great.

tried most of them. always end up back with kazaa but get some stuff on winmx.
as for getting the wrong movie after a night downloading.
ever tried checking it after 5-10 minutes?
I always copy and paste the firstcouple of megs of a movie from kazaa shared folder into virtual dub to check its the correct film and also to see the quality.
kazaa has some limits on downloads like number of search returns and bitrate etc but there are reg fixes for these and they are decreasing with every new release.
kazaa apparently has lots of spyware but do you really care? if you do, morpheus is apparently the same but without the spyare.
@all those who say kazaa and morpheus are the same. does this mean that they connect you to the same network? -
Yes, I use Morpheus, and it connects to the musiccity and kazaa networks.

Why is everyone saying Mynapster is slow I get downloads at 100k to 200k everytime I am using a cable modem. I have no problems with the software. You guys must have crappy connections.

P2P (peer2peer) filesharing programs are NOT the places to get movies. its pathetic, they ruin the vcd/divx/etc scene. ppl on there have NO idea who even creates these works of arts(the VCD encoders/groups, DivX rippers/encoders/groups...wont go into names) and then they rename files to make it look organized (sorry pet peeve). just about the only thing they are good for is finding my favorite types of music...no not trendy radio shit or rap, my fav music is local (OC, CA) punk and hardcore. if anything, the only movies P2P are good for are ones that have beeen released in the past year, but never got the chance to DL them directly from topsites.

Yeah... with these peer to peer clients you can't say "Yeah, it's fast." or "It sucks cause it's slow." because it directly connects you to the people sending you the data much like IRC DCC and ICQ's file transfers do. If it goes slow, it's because the connection between you and the people sending to you is slow. The program has nothing to do with how fast you get your file. I am on cable and I get things at 200-300kbps from Morpheus/KaZaA users.

If IRC or ICQ is so good how do I use it and what do I use? I really am not that great with computers I only Know the basics and the other illegal crap I have learned on the internet. I am not a computer guru like everyone else seems to think they are.

IRC and moreso ICQ are for people with connections, really. Because it is highly annoying to get entire VCDs and SVCDs from fservs and have to wait in a long queue line... IRC is pretty easy if you've ever used MSDOS, and ICQ is just a contact list program like Yahoo! Messenger and AOL Instant Messenger that allows you to chat and transfer any number of files of any size with people on there.

The thing about the IRC that I like is I stumble across stuff that I may not have even been looking for while on someone's fserve. It seems to me with the P2P programs you mostly find stuff related to your search and never random things. I've come across games, movies and apps simply by poking around someone's fserve when I wasn't even looking for that particular thing. The other thing about speeds is if you can find some XDCC servers on the IRC they are usually pretty fast so being queued up is not a big deal.

hmmmm should i download from someone elses computer at a slow ass 50kBps or should i download from usenet newsgroups at 600 kBps?
IMHO peer to peer lacks the speed and reliability to download movies efficiently. if you cant get on topsites or pubs then do yourself a favor and find out about usenet newsgroups.
peace out,
dumwaldo
AWW MA! you know i'm not like other guys. i get nervous and my socks are to loose. -
I am a WINMX user and i dl at 3.20 kb/s tops it takes me about 40 hours to dl a movie thats less tahn 500 mbs... i have shrek, jurassic park3,2nd parts of rush hour, american pie, and scarymovie and also planet of the apes, the others, and that fast and the furious it ook me a month to get all these movies but i think its worth it..so USE WINMIX it lets u resume and all taht other stuff...sometimes u get ones that say ( smr) u have to load them to vitualdub and then convert them to divx.. but thats another forum..USE WINMX

Edonkey2000 all the way. Ok, I'll admit it's not the easiest to use, but once you get used to it is beats all the others hands down for movies. I average 2-3 movies a day with my cable connection. If I had a larger hard drive to store the temporary partial files on I'm sure I could get even more, as the donkey resumes file transfers from multiple sources.
I think the key is to connect to a popular server like DK server or MCP Matrix.
Take the time to learn how to use edonkey, and then you will see why it is better than all the others. -
arnesr, couldn't agree more. If it weren't for my disc bing to small, I would easily get more then 2-3 movies per day. Clearly the best prog out there, gets good speed all the time, finds lots of movies.
WinMX was a piece of crap, was so disappointed.
dumwaldo, how stupid do you think we are? 600k in download per second! yeah right!! think you ment 60k. what connection do you have? if you have an OCN connection, I believe you, but I doubt you could afford it. -
I've got T1 connection, and for that speed is IRC the best way to get movies. I've got over 600 moviez (downloaded 200 in the last 2 months), and I could even download more, but I was too lazy
