Does anyone know of a Stand-Alone DVD player that will play CD-R movies in Divx and Avi format that we download off of P2P areas. That will hook up to a TV.
TIA!
William

I think this dvd player can play Divx movie but I don't think you want to spend $400 for this. You can buy a cheap PC with this money IMO. -
That player will only play certain types of divx at given resolutions, so it might play the odd downloaded divx of P2P if you are lucky. But by no means would it play all of them. This player would only really be suitable if you were creating your own divx.

Thanks! Criag can you check out this DVD Player and see what you think, I spoke to a person on one of my Fourms and he said he has the player and it comes with a built on patch that use can patch the firmware and it will play everything he has no promblems at all. It is the Mustek V520 DVD Player. Please let me know something I'm thinking of buying it.
TIA!
William

I think he is pulling your leg, nowhere in the specification of that player does it mention divx. If it were true I am sure there would be many posts about it on this forum.

We must have been typing at the same time.

Yep! thats what I thought also. but it does mention almost universal compatibility though.

Does seem like a very good deal

you would think if this was possable it would have been posted at some forum somewhere in the world -- and a search of google turns up nothing ..
not to say it isnt possable -- just no one seems to know about it .. -
A PC with a S-Video out is your best bet, it will play everything... That KISS player is useless to me. It will hardly play anything. Even if someone patched the firmware to make it accept more codec sources, it is really restrictive, and it would play, say maybe 5% of my movies maximum, and here, you can buy a basic computer for the same price than that player. You can also use the PC for other things
(PVR, Encoding, playing mp3's, surf web, ...)
-
Yes! thats right but, the only drawback to a PC with video out, which I have is that while someones watching a movie on the TV, I can't get online or use my PC. Gurrrr !!!
Thanks! to all of you for responding.
