After a long time of backing up my DVD's to DIVX. Now that I bought a DVD player that is known to work with SVCD's I am trying to copy my first DVD (Spiderman) to SVCD.
What I am noticing is that it is taking 24 hours to make an SVCD. I am using TMPGEnc.
What I am wondering is what is the fastest encoder for SVCD, I am used to it taking about 12 hours or so for DIVX. So can someone with experience advise on what encoders would do a faster job for SVCD while keeping a very high quality?
Thank you !

there is a whole bunch of mpeg2 encoders in the tools section. go look there. although tmpgenc is very good, and it also depends on your computer as far as how long it will take. cce is fastest but costs $2000.

Try TMPG's CQ mode max. bitrate=2496, min. bitrate=1100 and a quality setting between 75 and 85. This will take half the time, but you need to do a couple of test encodes and do some simple proportion calculations to work out the best quality setting to give you correct filesize.
TMPG's CQ mode is at least as good as 2-pass VBR for quality, and some think it is superior.
If you want speed, quality and certainty of filesize, you need CCE. 8) -
main concept is also very fast ... you can get a demo of it at thier web site .. not to expensive either ..

depends on settings:
1) higher bitrate will increase encode time (but higher quality, of course)
2) motion search accuracy should be set to HIGH QUALITY (SLOW)... this gives the best quality for encode time...setting that to highest quality (slowest) will increase encode time by a lot w/o improving the quality very much..... setting it lower than high quality (slow) will result in lower quality
3) filters will definitely increase encode time...
4) main factor is CPU...more powerful CPU, faster encode
5) set your encoder priority to highest and don't run any other proggies while encoding
