  4. Nearly, all DVD players made by Japanese companies play
VCD( factory made ). I quite sure this one does.

Maybe you want to ask does it play VCD on CDR or CDRW ?

If you also want to play SVCD, then better pick a Pioneer or JVC or Phillips.

The new generation of Apex players omit the ability to play S/VCD to keep their price low.

  5. Well....when I bought it I first checked out what it played....it says right on the box that it plays mp3/dvd/dvd-r/vcd/cdr/cdrw......I tested mp3...it worked.....i tested dvd...it worked....I tested cdr...it worked....I tested vcd last night.....it dont work..with one of my friends vcds....I dont know kind of files he used with his vcds...I dont if he plays them on a dvd player or on just his laptop....I have to ask him....it seemed that he had two full length movies on one disk....so I am thinking that he just burnt them as asf files....and just watches them on his laptop.....asf does not play on dvd players if I remember correctly......need to confirm this...if it is a mpg file it should work perfectly fine on my dvd player, right? Usually. I still need to test the cdrw and dvd-r. But I am not too worried about that. I dont dave dvd burner.....So that is no use to me....and cdrw I just dont like.....maybe because I dont have a cdrw burner also and plus the disk cost more the cdr. You can get more cdr's for you money....Well I hope you guys can give me your feedback on this one..thanks..

  6. I think you are right. This Toshiba does play VCD, and the VCD from your friend is non-standard. Since CDR/W is a non-issue here. Go to a local library, the most likely has VCDs that you can play to finally confirm it.

Just FYI - bought the Father-in-Law a Toshiba SD-310V (SD310V) for $98 at Wal-Mart. Does not seem to play SVCD. At least it didn't play the 3 SVCDs (Alias Episode and a couple of episodes of "Taken") that I KNOW work on my Apex 1600.

Anyway, we are taking it back tomorrow to get the Apex.

    Cya!
